About the Presenter:

Michael Hancock is the Director of Safety for Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico (a VPP Star Site) located in Quantico Virginia, the home of Presidential Helicopter Squadron 1 (HMX-1).  After joining the Marine Corps in 1983, his 37 consecutive years of service with the Marine Corps are comprised of a 21 year active duty career, then after retirement from active duty, was hired into his current position in 2004.  As the VPP Site Coordinator, Mr. Hancock has developed numerous creative risk mitigation strategies identified as best practices by the VPP evaluation process that have been replicated at multiple locations throughout the United States, effectively reducing mishaps and improving organizational awareness and involvement in local safety programs.  During his time in the Marine Corps Mr. Hancock had the incredible opportunity to serve as a Marine One Crew Chief for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, then later in his career served as a CH-46E Crew Chief on multiple deployments to include humanitarian and military missions in Turkey, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, and East Timor.  Mr. Hancock holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Strategies, is a Special Government Employee (SGE), a Certified Safety Management Specialist through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, is a certified public speaker and trainer through the John Maxwell Institute, a Board Member on the Region III VPPPA Board of Directors, owner of “Creative Safety LLC,” is blessed to be married to the love of his life for the last 35 years, and has two children and four grandchildren.
